Following concerns raised by residents regarding Echuca's Alton Reserve recently, Campaspe Shire Council assets executive manager Jon Aujard has provided some information relating to the condition of the reserve. ``Due to Coliban Water restrictions in recent years it has been difficult to keep the grass healthy and green,'' Mr Aujard said.
``The water management plan with Coliban Water has allowed the use of one megalitre per year but this is not sufficient in the long term. The irrigation system is also in poor condition, making watering difficult. The area also gets very heavy use.
``The Shire of Campaspe has developed a master plan for the site but this will require $250,000 to fully implement.''
According to Mr Aujard, council allocated some funds in the past and has been trying to leverage these funds through a grant.
Council was applying for funds through the recently announced Regional and Local Community Infrastructure program for some improvement works in the reserve, Mr Aujard said.
Hopwood Garden is watered using a raw water allocation and have not been affected by the Coliban Water restrictions.
